Kaulin Teppanyaki is a long-running, budget-friendly local favorite in Taichung. The Jianxing branch sits on Jianxing Rd. across from the Splendor Park boulevard, close to the Museum of Natural Science, and draws queues on weekdays and weekends alike. The draw is its "double-main set"—two main dishes at a wallet-friendly price, served with corn soup, rice, stir-fried vegetables, bean sprouts, and a dessert. Cooked to order on the iron griddle, the diced steak is seared outside and juicy within, the teppanyaki beef is fragrant with onion and black pepper, and the squid is springy and sweet. The stir-fried cabbage is light and the signature corn soup is rich and creamy. Dessert is a choice of three, with pan-fried banana drizzled in condensed milk a classic pick.
